                                                     L.R.Tippings

L.R. Tipping's was one of the very finest English gunsmiths and his rifles are world famous for there high quality English tiger walnut wood furniture and overall finish work.

All Tippings Lee Enfield rifles were crafted to Olympic Standard of marksmanship

and were used in the 1908 Olympic games.

This Tippings rifle is number 67 and the quality is outstanding

L.H.Tipping only used extremely high quality Commercial BSA & Co manufactured Converted C.L.L.E  Lee Metford 11 as in this case or Long Lee Enfield C.L.L.E (BSA Manufacture) for his conversion to Olympic standard target rifles.

Tipping must have had a contract with BSA to supply him with only the best commercial BSA long lee or Metford II 's converted to C.L.L.E specification .

Tipping would then convert them to high precision target rifles to conform with NRA Service rifle competitions and the current Olympic standard of the time.

From a collectors point of view

This particular rifle started its life as a Commercial Lee Metford II and dates to 1893-1894 which is a very important time in British military History.  In 1894  6,000  Military grade Lee Metfords II's were sent to second Afghanistan war as part of the expansion of British Empire into Afghanistan.

Like the USA and British ground forces in 2022 in Afghanistan the British invasion of Afghanistan in 1894 was a total disaster.  This rifle never went to deployment in Afghanistan as an officers private purchase but many did and none came back....!

In 1888-89  all Lee Metford II's were re-barrelled with Enfield .303 rifled barrels and in 1907 all current Military stock were converted to CL.L.E as part of the British military upgrade program.

This Tippings rifle was converted in the commercial department at the BSA factory in around 1910 and sold to Tipping who converted then to Target rifles.

On first inspection the Tipping's Target rifles are fitted with a later shorter barrel but this is not the case,  all Tipping's rifle are 100% pure long Lee's or in this case Lee Metford II which were modified for Olympic standard competitions.

L.R.Tippings rifles were used in the International Match Comp in the 1908 Olympic Games.  This rifle is numbered  67  by Tippings the rifle still has its original BSA & Co serial number 2344 which dates the original manufacturing date to late 1894.  This is confirmed by the Lee Metford II Bolt fitted.
