Fazakerley  Number 4  Mk2  .303  Service Rifle  Dated  5 / 1954

This lovely late manufactured Lee Enfield Number 4 Mk2 was manufactured at  the R.S.A.F Fazakerley in May 1954.

This was the very last model of the Lee Enfield rifle to be manufactured in the UK and built to a high standard of finish.  This Fazakerley Number 4 Mk2 has all matching numbers including the magazine.

Within in a year of this rifle being manufactured and by mid 1955 all planned  production had stopped.

In 1956 all spare parts left over from the 1955 production run were built into Rifles.

The Number 4 Mk2 was the very last of the Lee Enfield rifles range that spanned over 70 years.

This model has an intergraded trigger system and free floating barrel .

This rifle has a lovely wood finish and would make a great range rifle.

A great rifle for service rifle competition

By 1955 the days of bolt action Service rifles for the military uses had come to an end and at the Fazakerley Factory tooling up had started for the new British Service Rifle,  the L1A1 7.62 Semi Automatic Self loading Rifle.

On April 3rd 1960 the British Government announced in the Houses of Parliament that by June 1960 the R.S.A.F Fazakerley was to be shut.

All L1A1 tooling and parts were sent to R.S.A.F Enfield and in June 1960 the Fazakerley factory closed its doors for the last time.
